Ever try to download a big file from Telegram? It can be so slow. Painfully slow. You click download, and then you just… wait. It’s really frustrating, especially when you just want that new video everyone’s talking about.
But what if there was a way to speed things up? A lot? I’m going to show you how to use a popular tool to get those files on your computer in a fraction of the time. Seriously, it’s a huge help.
In this guide, I’ll walk you through it, step by step. First, we’ll use a simple Telegram bot to grab a special download link. Then, we’ll plug that link into Internet Download Manager (IDM) to download the file at top speed. Ready? Let’s go!
First, Let’s Get the Magic Link
To use a download manager like IDM, you first need a direct link to the file. We’re going to use a little helper inside Telegram called a bot. It sounds technical, but it’s super easy. I was skeptical the first time I tried this, but it worked perfectly.
-
- Open your Telegram app. It works on your phone or your computer.
- Go to the search bar and type in @GetPublicLinkBot. You might see a few, but pick the popular one.
-
- Tap on the bot to open a chat with it.
- Click the “Start” button to get things going.
-
- Now for the easy part. Find the file you want to download and simply forward it to the bot.
-
- Almost instantly, the bot will reply with a direct download link. That’s our golden ticket.
If that bot is ever busy or offline, don’t worry! You can try a few others like “@HHTGFilezDLBot” or “@Link4FilesBot”. They all do the same thing.
Time to Speed Things Up with IDM
Okay, you have the link. Now let’s use Internet Download Manager (IDM) to download it quickly. IDM works by splitting the file into small parts and downloading them all at once, which is why it’s so fast.
-
- First, copy the link the bot gave you.
- Open up IDM. Look for the “Add URL” button. It’s usually near the top.
-
- Paste your link into the URL box. IDM usually does this automatically.
- Click “Start Download” and watch it go! Much faster, right?
Here’s an even easier way…
If you have the IDM extension installed in your web browser, you can just open the download link in a new tab. A little IDM download box should pop right up on the screen. Just click it to start the download. So simple.
What About Files in Private Groups?
So, the bot trick is great for public channels. But what if the file is in a private group? No problem. Telegram has a built-in tool for that, but you’ll need to use the desktop app.
- On your computer, open the Telegram app and go to Settings.
- Go to Advanced > Export Telegram Data.
- A new window will appear. Under “Chat export settings,” just select “Private groups“.
- This is important: make sure you uncheck the box that says “Only my messages.” This way, you get all the files from the group, not just things you posted.
- Choose what you want to download (photos, videos, files, etc.).
- Pick a folder on your computer to save everything.
- Finally, click “Export“. This might take a little while if there are a lot of files, so maybe go grab a snack!
FAQs
My Telegram downloads are still slow. What else can I do?
Besides using IDM, a few other things can help. A stable internet connection is key. I’ve also found that downloads seem to be faster late at night when fewer people are online. And for me, the desktop app usually feels a bit quicker than the web version.
Can I download videos directly from the Telegram website?
You sure can! On the Telegram web version, just find the video you want. Right-click on it and choose “Save video as…“. Easy. Or, you can always use the bot method we talked about to get a link and download it with IDM for better speed.
By following these simple methods, you can download files from Telegram much more easily and quickly. No more waiting around!
